BJP calls for Jammu bandh on Nov 8 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday called for Jammu bandh in protest against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's remarks on J&K’s accession with India, on November 8, the scheduled opening day to re-open of the government offices the winter capital of the state. The party said that it has planned a calendar of protests against the chief minister. “It is unfortunate that the chief minister, who owes his position to the constitution which clearly states that 'Jammu and Kashmir is and shall remain integral part of India', has chosen to raise doubts about it,” BJP state president, Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here. He took strong exception to Omar questioning the status of Jammu and Kashmir within the Indian union, despite the last Dogra king, Maharaja Hari Singh, having signed the same instrument of accession that other princely states had signed while acceding to India. “We will begin with a Jammu bandh on November 8 and thereafter we will organise more protests,” Manhas said. He pointed out that it is shocking that despite holding a responsible chair in democratic set up of the state, the chief minister spoke the language of separatists. He also said Omar Abdullah should either seek apology from people of the state or resign from the chair. The BJP leader said that people of Jammu should not only protest Omar's remarks, but also unite against and gherao the Congress ministers who did not react to chief minister's statement in the Legislative Assembly on October 6. He said that there will be a complete shut down on November 8 and added that the call has been supported by all social, political and religious organisations besides transporters.
