PMGSY not serving its purpose; villages still not connected | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SAMBA, Nov 2: The centrally sponsored scheme Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) was launched in December 25, 2000 in order to provide connectivity to the unconnected villages of the country. But this scheme is not implemented in its letter and spirit in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Many villages of the state are still remained unconnected under this scheme and even in some villages, the work is yet to start even after many years. One glaring examples of the official apathy in implementation of the PMGSY is delayed construction of 7 kilometer road from Nud to village Jatta in district Samba. Notably, the said road was inaugurated three year ago by the concerned MLA Yashpal Kundal but the work is still incomplete till date. The said road is serving thousands of villagers of many villages including Nud, Gujal, Kane, Nund, Jatta, Rayore, Sore, Karad and its adjoining areas. Locals alleged that the concerned MLA had sanctioned five crore rupees for the construction of the road three years ago. But on ground, the road is waiting for the construction work to be started. As a result the people are facing many problems. There is no accountability of the funds sanctioned for the said road. MLA Yashpal Kundal, while talking to ET said he had given Rs 5 crore to the Power Work Department (PWD) three years ago for construction of the road but the PWD officials were hands in glove with the contractors and minting hefty sum of money. This is the main reason that this road is still incomplete till now, added Kundal. He also added that he himself many times has highlighted the issue with the concerned department but still they respond carelessly on the issue. Kundal further said that he would now send a written request to the senior officers and future course of action will be taken after that.
