With pious Diwali comes evil of gambling | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 2: As the festival of Diwali is round the corner, the markets are flooded with variety of commodities to be used on the occasion. But with this, evil of gambling is also on the rise in various parts of the Jammu region. It is pertinent to mention here that police have arrested gamblers in the daily routine in the different areas and seized some cash from the possession of gamblers from parts of Samba, Bari-Brahamana, R S Pura. The police also arrested some of the gamblers. But one thing is heartening that the big fishes are still out of reach of the police. Those who were arrested are the petty gamblers not the big ones whose stakes in lakhs are involved . The police have been conducting raids on daily basis and arrested many gamblers and recovered cash from their possession. President Jan Jagriti Manch, Parveen while talking to ET said that police should contain this evil practice and also try to catch big fishes of the game. Besides this there was also need of mass awareness programme against this practice, he said.
