| People protest after police beat two youth | | | JAMMU: People today protested at Chenani in Udhampur after police allegedly beat up two innocent youth in the lock up.Sanduroo and Raju were picked up by police from Kanchakdhar in Chenani last night and whisked away to the Chenani police station. People alleged that the two were tortured and beaten by cops in the lock up. Police, however, set them free this morning without booking them in any case.
The incident sparked off strong resentment in the area with people holding a strong anti-police demonstration.The protesters later went to the office of tehsildar R K Anand, who ordered a probe into the alleged incident.Official sources said Anand had deputed naib-tehsildar to investigate the matter.On the assurance of the tehsildar that justice would be done in the case, people later dispersed peacefully.Sundroo and Raju were hospitalised.
