‘On-going Kashmir agitation saved NC from Rana onslaught’ | | | Early Times report Jammu, Nov 2: The on-going agitation has been a blessing in disguise for some senior members of the National Conference. It relieved them of what they called "Rana hegemony". In the pre-agitation era, Rana had grown increasingly important. He was present everywhere much to the discomfort of some senior ministers. He did not even hesitate planting stories against some of them in local newspapers. The agitation, NC leaders believe, cut Rana to size. Davinder Rana is to Omar Abdullah what Ashok Jaitely was to Dr Farooq Abdullah. Jaitly was the master and senior ministers had to listen to him. Omar is no different. Rana is the shadow Chief Minister and runs the show. Farooq Abdullah did not listen anything against his `friend'. He derived vicarious pleasure on the seeing the honour of his colleagues getting trampled in Jaitley's chamber. Omar says `take the file to Rana Sahib.' Rana, does not like seniors like Abdul Rahim Rather and Ali Muhammad Sagar and takes no measures to conceal his `love' for them. The rift in the National Conference came to fore in January this year when a New Delhi based newspaper reported it. The report, quoting sources, mentioned that senior Ministers, Abdul Rahim Rather and Ali Muhammad Sagar would be relieved off their portfolios shortly. The report almost created cracks in the National Conference. The government had to come out with a statement denying the report. Highly placed sources in the National Conference said the report was based on facts and was not by any means a figment of reporter's imagination. "Abdul Rahim Rather and Ali Muhammad Sagar are Dr Farooq's loyalists. Davinder Rana does not like them for various reasons", they revealed. The sources said that Rahim Rather and Ali Muhammad Sagar do not like Rana's growing influence over Omar Abdullah. There was a time when Rather did not respond to Chief Minister's phone calls, the sources said. "The agitation saved National Conference from Rana's onslaught", they said. The problem started, according to sources, the day when Omar Abdullah appointed Rana as his political advisor. The seniors, sources said, did not like his appointment. "Rana is a good business man and, therefore, qualifies to be the economic advisor. He is not a politician and does not know the (A B C) of politics. How can the Chief Minister of a politically disturbed state have an advisor who knows nothing about politics?" Davinder Rana is omnipresent. The seniors in National Conference get disturbed by his presence everywhere. "Thanks to the Chief Minister, Davinder Rana has become the poster boy of National Conference", the sources said. |
