Traffic jams order of the day!

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 2: As and when there is a festival in the winter capital of the state, the already wayward traffic scenario here turns from bad to worse and with Diwali, around the corner, frequent traffic jams have become order of the day in city.
Since the festive season is on, the movement of traffic on Jammu roads increases because people move around the city more often than they normally do. The reason behind these sudden rounds in various markets of the city is that the public tend to go out for purchasing ahead of a grand festival like Diwali or for that matter any other occasion.
With a sudden flow of thousands of vehicles on narrow Jammu roads, the poor traffic system of the city just collapses.
These days one could witness traffic snarls at several busy roads of the city including Jewel-Canal Road-Talab Tillo, Bikram Chowk-Jammu University- Railway Station - Trikuta Nagar Extn (Channi Road), Panama Chowk - Narwal Bye Pass, Fly-over, interiors of Nanak Nagar-Shastri Nagar, Bakshi Nagar Hospital Road, Ambphalla - Janipur, Ambphalla - Bus Stand and many more.
A person driving a car or any other mode of transport has to wait for hours together to get his vehicle out of jams as the traffic moves at a snail's pace. The huge Traffic jams could be witnessed even in Nagrota during evening hours resulting in suffering to the travelers particularly to Vaishno Devi pilgrims heading for Katra.
"Its a tall order to maneuver your vehicle on congested city roads due to heavy rush ahead of Diwali. There are frequent jams and for this mess only and only traffic cops are responsible as they do not perform their duty in a professional manner." Vivek Singh of Shastri Nagar said
The deteriorating traffic during festive season is more than a nightmarish experience for the lady drivers as for them being stuck in jam means bringing additional trouble for them.
"These days it becomes very difficult to drive on city roads because of regular traffic jams especially in evening hours but the story is not different either even during day time. As for as I am concerned its an uphill task to handle the steering wheel. Traffic jams just give me goosebumps." maintained Sunita, a housewife
"There is also scarcity of parking slots in city which led to more chaos because people park their vehicles on roads thereby bringing more trouble." she added
Munish, a University student, blames multiple vehicles owned by a single family.
He said, "Now-a-days there are almost 2 to 3 vehicles in one house, and every family member goes out on his own vehicle. It is one of the reasons for increase in traffic jams. No doubt, After Durbar opens here in Jammu roads would get more choked due to increase in vehicles. You will find the city roads full of vehicles stranded at many places."
"Traffic people should be trained well for the smooth movement of traffic particularly at Bikram Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Panama Chowk and other busy rotaries.
Traffic police should take help from local NGOs, volunteers and social activist for ensuring smooth movement of traffic." Munish opined
While Sanjay, a private employee, said that there is more traffic in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc, than in Jammu but one hardly sees traffic remains stranded for hours together. Nobody violates the traffic rules. If anyone found indulging in some sort traffic violation, he is being fined heavily. Traffic lights also play important role in smooth flow of traffic.
