Ripples resurface in coalition, Cong not happy with Omar's style of work | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, NOV2: All is not going well with ruling coalition in the J&K and the two alliance partners are at draggers drawn with each other. The sudden differences in the alliance partners have resurfaced during the recent visit of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to Kashmir when the Chief Minister, did not accompany him to Leh and Baramullah during his visit. Though the love -hate relationship started between the two coalition partners since the alliance took over the reins of the state in 2008, but the relationship strained between them after the last month's statement of the Chief Minister in the State Assembly questioning the ac cession of the state with Union of India. The Congress High Command as well as Union Government which did not publicly reacted to the statement and some of the national leaders of the party and Union ministers openly backed Omar Abdullah saying that there was nothing wrong in his utterances but actually the statement was not taken well by the senior Congress leaders in New Delhi. Even the Party faced a constant pressure from opposition parties demanding sacking of Omar Abdullah led coalition. However for the face saving the Congress leadership in New Delhi did not overreact to it and they adopted a wait and watch policy, though in in the heart of heart Congress leadership was not happy with what Abdullah has spoken in the Assembly. A senior Congress leader in New Delhi while commenting on Abdullah's statement in Union Capital said he has chewed more that what he could digest. Even the PCC chief, Prof Saif -ud-Din Soz a bête noire of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah publicly attacked the Chief Minister and asked him to go through his grandfather's autobiography on accession. Soz taking a serious exception to the utterances of Abdullah did not lose any opportunity in criticising the him during his public meetings in the state. However the Central leadership of the party continued to pursue its wait and watch policy. But the rift between the two parties came to fore after the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah did not accompany to the Union Minister P Chidambaram during his recent visit to Leh where he had gone to take stock of the ongoing rehabilitation work of cloud burst victims. The Chief Minister also did not accompany Mr. Chidambaram during his visit to Baramulla next day. This sudden shift in the relationship of the two coalition partners in the state has been viewed in political circles as a serious development. The sources close to Congress said that Party High Command is not happy with the style of functioning of Omar Abdullah who except enjoying support from 10 Janpath has no well-wishers in the Congress Party now. The senior leadership of the Party in Union Capital are trying their best to persuade AICC, general secretary Rahul Gandhi and AICC chief Mrs. Sonia Gandhi to sack the Omar Abdullah led coalition in the state as continuance of alliance with NC will prove inimical to Congress interests. |
