Let separatists respond to Sonia's plea for peace in J&K | | | Will the appeal made by the AICC Chief and UPA chairperson,Sonia Gandhi,to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to give "peace a chance"have some takers in the troubled state ?Even if a major section of the people in the state, especially in the Kashmir valley favour peace will the agencies across the LOC allow them to enjoy the benefits of poltical and security stability ?If the track record of the separaists and the agencies across the border is taken into account the possibilities of peace in Kashmir ar e not very bright in the immediate future unless the Government performs soacale by way of redressing the problems of the people of the state.Even though Sonia Gandhi seemed to be penitent over what happened in Kashmir during the last over four months, her claim that a new situation had emerged in the state appears to be untenable. But one does hope that the separatists and the agencies across the border give a thought to Sonia's appeal for peace. Sonia Gandhi has described the recent unrest in the state as“painful” and appealed to all “disatisfied” sections to give peace a chance so that their future could be built. She said the government was keen on a “meaningful political dialogue” with all political parties and regions of the state for which the interlocutors have been appointed.“We are faced with a new situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The events of the last few months were painful,” Gandhi said addressing the AICC session in New Delhi. She,like the Union Home Minister,P.C.Chidambaram,seem to be quite hopeful in the ability of the three interlocuters for completing the task that has been entrusted to them. Congress President Sonia Gandhi described the recent unrest in the state as “painful” and appealed to all “disatisfied” sections to give peace a chance so that their future could be built. She said the government was keen on a “meaningful political dialogue” with all political parties and regions of the state for which the interlocutors have been appointed.“We are faced with a new situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The events of the last few months were painful,” Gandhi said She expressed anguish at the loss of young lives in Kashmir. “I share their grief. Their loss is national loss. The whole generation has seen nothing but violence and conflict,” she said. She urged all those who are “dissatisfied” in Jammu and Kashmir with the government to trust the government and “give peace a chance and enable us to build future for the next generation”.She said priority should be given to development of the state.Mrs Gandhi sems to have made a sincere bid for reaching to the hearts of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.During all these years she has avoided commenting on the political and seecurity situation in Jammu and Kashmir in such a candid way as he did during the Congress session in New Delhi on Tuesday. This indicats that Sonia is not only worried about the situation in the state but also she wants to motivate the Government to end the cycle of violence so that peace and political stability were restored to Jammu and Kashmir.Kashmir experts are of the opinion that it would be better for the centre not to place all the eggs in the basket of the interlocuters but also explore the possibility of cultivating Islamabad so that a durable solution to the issue was hammered out.Thre should be no problem for the youth in Kashmir to respond to Sonia's appeal for pace because the Government of India has decided to tackle various economic issues, including the problem of unemployment,in the state
