Who gains ……by the way? | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 4: The winter capital of the state witnessed one more 'episode' of so called protest and opposition to the presence of separatist leader , this time the moderate Shabir Shah while he was echoing his views in a press conference. This certainly made news, at least for media and a 'tamasha' for the onlookers , enacted just by a handful of activists, all for the sake of patriotism and love for motherland. The patriotic fervour and respect for mother India by the BJP or its yoth organsiation BJYM can not be questioned nor is there any dispute in their love for the soil of Jammu, the main reason the protestors gave for not allowing the separatist leaders to raise what they contended 'anti India ' slogans or any expressions against the spirit of sovereign nation. It is widely known that separatist leaders of any hue or affliation with any group, have open agenda of demanding secession of Kashmir. It is their ideology around which they are doing politics for over two decades. One only gets surprised to find such 'activists', be they be belonging to any political party or any other organisation, get hyper active almost pronouncing that the persons against whom they are demonstrating or disrupting their actions are not Indians , leave lone their being patriotic or nationalists. In fact seldom do they realise that in the enire process of demonstrative acts, the protestors only serve the purpose and cause of giving more importance and publicity to the presence of sepratists which otherwise would go unnoticed .Like for instance they did it today in a Jammu hotel, without realising perhaps that their act has only brought them to limelight and wide publicty. This surely may have enabled some lesser known activists win laurels from certain quarters and get some meida glare but more than that the act of registering protest in a manner to heckle and hamper the proceedings of press conference has made Shah more prominent, who otherwise had been pushed almost to oblivion, given the fact that he remained behind the bar for many years as also the fact that he has differences with other senior leaders of separatist camp. One more aspect of the whole story is that at a time when Congress led UPA government is making all out efforts to build atomsphere of peace through its committed assurances, which includes release of political leaders as a part of 8 point formula, the local leadership of BJP through its consistent statements has been opposing the moves tooth and nail on one pretext or other , the larger contention being projection of these steps as against the sovereignity and integration of India, in context of their loud claim that J&K is an integral part of the country. But, like Shabir Shah himself contended that whatever BJYM activists did today only goes on to antagonise and contradict what its iconic leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee did years ago, no matter in the name and for the reason of peace and dialgoue.Shah questioned loudly after the disruption act if the move of inviting him personally for talks by Mr Vajpayee was a for a different purpose than what the present Union government intends in trying to involve separatist leaders in the dialogue process. The difference is there certainly. It lies in the fact that when the then NDA government initaited peace moves for Kashmir it was led by BJP and now when similar steps and measures are being taken by the Union government, it is led by Congress, the main opponent of BJP. This may be what is required in a game called politics, true actually for all political parties, Congress as well, but for now the reality remains any government or party at the helm of affairs in the Centre has to push forward peace moves in a constant manner to get nay positive results. Taking separatist leaders , including moderate ones like Shah on baord for initiating dialogue process is mandatory and imperative in the present atmosphere of fragile peace. This is the fact even BJP high Command and seasoned leaders acknowledge and accept. |
