2 porn film makers among 12 released
11/4/2010 11:50:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 4: In Kashmir, people involved in sex scams are important for the government and the dissident leadership. The government seems to have a soft corner for people involved in sex scams.
A few years ago when Hurriyat leadership talked to the prime Minister, the issue of release of prisoners was raised. Responding to Hurriyat appeal, the government of India directed the state government to release two persons. One among them is a genuine political activist and the other was behind the bars for his involvement in Handwara sex scam. Hurriyat Conference alone knows how and why his release was taken up at the highest level.
Five years down the line, nothing seems to have changed in Kashmir. People arrested for making porn CDs are still important. This time the government has considered their release. Two youths (names withheld for security reasons) were arrested by the police from a north Kashmir town on November 4, 2009 for making porn films. They were booked under relevant provisions of law and then detained under Public Safety Act (PSA). Subsequently they were shifted to Hira Nagar Jail.
The Home Minister of India promised to review cases of `political activists' detained under PSA. Twelve cases have been reviewed so far. Surprisingly, the tainted persons arrested for making porn films were included in the list of `political activists'. They are among the twelve persons released by the government recently in the name of `relief' to Kashmiris.
The package, according to Advocate Arshad Andrabi is conditional. "The parents of the released persons have to execute a bond every three months in the office of the concerned jail superintendent. This is procedure is extra-constitutional. But then the state home department can do anything. It treats political workers and pimps alike."
The Chief Minister and the Director General of Police (DGP) while admitting his mistakes had talked about reviewing the cases of students. But till date, no student has been released till date. "How can the government think of releasing the students when important people supposed to make porn CDS are behind the bars", Andrabi questioned.
