Lack of coordination forces Jammu parties to give separate calls of bandh on Nov 8 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 4: The separate Jammu bandh calls given by various parties on November 8- the opening day of move offices in the Winter Capital has again revealed lack of coordination and unanimity among the people claiming to fight for the common cause of Jammu and against the growing indiscrimination with the people of the region. The common man is totally perturbed with this style of functioning of the Jammu parties. The separate bandh calls given by various organizations of the region on November 8 has sent wrong signals among the people and created a confusion among them, said Satish Poonchi, president Peoples Front. Instead of giving the separate calls in order to their one up-manship over each other, the political and social organizations who gave the bandh call on November 8 were supposed to support the party which had first given the call without making it a point of prestige, he added. He said one does not understand that on the one hand these parties claim to fight for the common cause of the people of the region and on the other hand there are many ideological differences among them. This way how they can fight for the common cause and genuine rights of Jammu people, he added. Supporting his views Anil Parihar a social and political activist said instead of making it a prestigious point the political and social organizations who gave separate bandh calls on November 8 should have supported the party which gave the call first. This could have sent a positive message among the masses and a warning signal to the people responsible for the continuous discrimination with Jammu region to make them realize that Jammuites are one and no further discrimination will be tolerated by them, he added. The lack of coordination and unity among the various Jammu based parties has been the main reason for the prevailing discrimination with the region, said Balwinder Singh another social activist from Jammu. ``With such an attitude how the Jammu parties can seek the justice for the people of the region when they have no unanimity on the common issues facing the people'', he added. Singh said about one dozen parties have followed the bandh call given by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Soon after the BJP made the bandh call on November 1, the Shiv Sena Balasahib Thakeray and Jammu West Assembly Movement followed suit by giving separate calls of Jammu bandh on the same day. This was followed by Jammu Bar Association (JBA), Shri Ram Sena, Jammu Province Peoples Forum, SOS International and Lok Janshakti Party Jammu which too gave a call for separate bandh on November 8, Singh added. This has revealed that more than fighting for the rights of people of the region and get rid of the prevailing discrimination to which the Jammu has been subjected to the leaders of these parties want to draw a political mileage of the issue, he said, adding such an attitude of these organizations has disheartened the common man. Instead of giving the separate calls for the Jammu bandh all the political and social organizations should have come under a common platform and after discussing the issues of common interest chalk out a strategy of how to fight them, said Salam-ud-Din another political activist and a Gujjar leader. Though the political parties this way will try to score points over each other but common man will get nothing as Government will take full advantage of the vertical division among their ideologies. From delimitation to discrimination in appointments in Government services and admissions in professional colleges, the people of Jammu are facing many problems like grant of citizenship rights and PRCs to West Pak refugees, settlement of the demands of POK refugees, equal distribution of funds between two regions, promotion of tourist resorts of the region, compensation to traders, transporters of 2008 land row agitation and ex-gratia to the martyrs families of 2008 agitation. It may be recalled that BJP had given the bandh call on November 1 in protest against the statement of the Chief Minister challenging the merger of the J&K state with Indian Union and failure of the Government to provide compensation to the martyrs, traders and transporters of land row agitation of 2008. |
