| Who according to Chief Minister’s political advisor divisive? | | |

JAMMU, Nov 6: On November 4, businessman-turned-political advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a solemn pledge to defeat the divisive forces which, according to him, are all out to disturb the secular fabric of J&K and create fissures among people on political, religious or social basis for their petty political gains. He made this pious statement while addressing a poorly attended public meeting in the R. S. Pura area and urged the people not to walk into the trap of those who have unleashed a false propaganda against the Omar Abdullah-led rag-tag coalition government. Actually, it was not a public meeting. It was a meeting participated in by a few National Conference workers.
Political Advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and an exceptionally outstanding think-tank of the otherwise politically bankrupt, controversial, rabidly anti-Jammu and anti-minorities National Conference did well when he told those who attended this meeting that it is imperative that people should preserve the secular fabric of our society and isolate the forces bent upon dividing the state on regional and communal lines to meet their own vested interests.
The political Advisor to the Chief Minister and indeed a very capable think-tank of the otherwise exceptionally communal and essentially separatist and Kashmir-centric National Conference also did exceedingly well when he urged the audience to strengthen and uphold the atmosphere of regional and communal harmony and brotherhood. His was a sane advice and he deserves congratulations for his unflinching faith in secularism and inter-regional harmony. Every Indian needs to adhere to what the political Advisor to the Chief Minister said. This was, and is, the need of the hour.
At the same time, however, it has to be regretted that there was a serious flaw in the otherwise his sound sermon. He should have pinpointed those forces, which, according to the great think-tank of the National Conference, are communal; which are vitiating the state’s political atmosphere by raking up regional and other non-issues to meet their own vested interests; which are working against those honestly seeking to preserve the secular fabric of our society; and which are not strengthening and upholding the atmosphere of regional and communal harmony and brotherhood.
Had the National Conference think-tank and astute political Advisor to the equally brilliant and secular Chief Minister pinpointed those negative forces, it would have inspired the ignorant people to take on the dark forces and work with single-minded devotion to carry forward his noble message. By not doing so, the National Think-tank has only made the prevailing confusion worse confounded.
But the Political Advisor still can remove the flaws from his noble formulations as they can be easily removed. And, he simply has to say that National Conference is secular because it believes in two-nation theory; because it is seeking a dispensation outside the Indian Constitution on the score of religion; because it has established its anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh credentials by perpetrating on these two hapless regions injustice after injustice; because it has resolved to impose its separatist and communal will on the people of Jammu and Ladakh; because it hates the Central laws and Central institutions; because it is working overtime to bring the trained Pakistan-based Kashmiri militants back to the Valley; because it is determined to give amnesty to all those who are behind the bars for the crimes committed against the Indian state and the innocent civilians and because it is also determined to make the petty thieves and similar others to languish in jails because they are a threat to national security; and so on and so forth.
The Political Advisor to the Chief Minister can remove the flaws from his formations by simply saying that those who are demanding the state’s integration into India and application of the Union Constitution to the state in full are communal and separatist; those who are demanding equitable development of all the three regions are rank regionalists and vested interests; those demanding citizenship rights for the Hindu refugees from West Pakistan and opposing the resettlement in Jammu of those Muslims who migrated to Pakistan in the wake of the country’s communal partition in 1947 and became the Pakistani nationals are sectarian, narrow-minded and fundamentalists.
So, the task of the Political Advisor is easy. Just one statement on the lines indicated above would clear all the doubts and establish that he is an ardent believer in the concepts of secularism, inter-regional harmony and brotherhood – National Conference-style. Something is fundamentally wrong with this political advisor. It is unfortunate that there are in Jammu a few persons who are, instead of taking on those who are out to help the cause of the separatists and disintegrate India, give a communal orientation to everything in the state, render the people of Jammu and Ladakh and religious and ethnic minorities in the state ineffective, obtain a dispensation outside the Indian Constitution, are singing songs eulogizing Omar Abdullah and others of his ilk. It is time for the people of Jammu province to isolate and excommunicate all the black sheep.
