“Gujjars on receiving end in J&K” | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 6: Gujjars form sizeable chunk of population in Jammu and Kashmir but have been receiving very little attention at the hand of various governments. In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that a meeting was held under the chairmanship of state senior president of tribal students front Javed Choudhary. While addressing the students, Choudhary said that Gujjars had made innumerable sacrifices in country’s freedom movement but they continue to suffer from age old poverty, backwardness, literacy and economic morass. He demanded that Gojri department should be opened immediately in Jammu university campus and Gojri classes in different colleges should also be started. He appealed the governor who to direct chancellor of Jammu university for opening of Gojri department in Jammu university. At last, he appreciated work of Vice-Chancellor of Gujjars-Bakarwal advisory board but he strongly opposed work of director tribal affairs, who fails to provide scholarships to student of last year session. He warned state government if the demands of tribal community are not fulfilled, they will start agitation and come on roads. Others who were present in meeting included Mohammed Rafi, Arif Iqbal, Usman Choudhary, Zakir and others.
