JKNPP demands probe in electrification scheme execution | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 6: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has demanded a high level probe into alleged irregularities in the execution of multi-crore electrification scheme under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) in Udhampur district. “There are large scale irregularities and bunglings in the execution of this (RGGVY) scheme in Udhampur district of J&K,” said Working Chairman of JKNPP and former minister Harsh Dev Singh. Executing agency not only failed to achieve prescribed targets within the stipulated period but also committed serious violations in the implementation of the scheme, he alleged. Singh said that the scheme to bring hamlets devoid of power supply under electrification was entrusted by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to the agency to be executed and completed by 2008 and was further extended to the year 2009 but the agency failed in performing its job. “Dozens of villages and habitations located in hilly and remote areas of the district have been totally ignored and no action whatsoever has been taken for their electrification by Power Development Department (PDD) till date," said Singh, who is also an MLA. He added that there were large scale complaints of incomplete and half-done works from the villages which were shown to have been fully electrified by the executing agency. “Electric sub-stations were created only in plain and easily accessible areas to utter neglect of remote, far flung areas despite forming part of scheme in the district,” he said. Electrification works under RGGVY scheme are already under CBI investigation in Kathua district and a probe should be conducted on the analogy of the district, he added.
