| IMs Prasanna, Debashis lead; Navyug salvage pride for J&K | | XXI National Under-17 Chess Tournament | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, November 06: Both the International Masters (IMs), Prasanna Rao of Maharashtra and Debashis Das of Orissa performed on expected lines maintaining a lead securing 4.5 points each in boys section at the end of round five in the ongoing XXI National U-17 (boys and girls) Chess Tournament here today.
In today’s round five, Prasanna (2400) and higher ranked Debashis (2411) played a draw to add half point to their respective total of four. Another IM, Narayanan Srinath of Tamil Nadu was trailing behind his counterparts with four points.
However, host J&K salvaged some pride when unrated Navyug Sethi defeated seeded Kumar Gaurav (1683) of Bihar to become highest earner from the state with three points in his account out of five outings.
Another young boy from J&K, Rajat Bhardwaj held his higher rated opponent from Tamil Nadu, Ganesh P (1939) to a draw to improve his tally at 2.5 points at the end of round five.
On the other hand, J&K girls could not show their presence felt and continue to lose against the opponents from other states.
