Gujjars plead for including Gojri in 8th schedule | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 7: Seeking support from political parties, linguistic groups, media and influential dignitaries, Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today pleaded union government to include significant tribal language “Gojri” into eighth schedule of Indian constitution. In an appeal issued on behalf of community by tribal research and cultural foundation to union government and people belonging to every shade of life, community solicited their support for induction and recognition of their language at national level. Giving details, Secretary Tribal Foundation Dr. Javaid Rahi said that Gojri has already been recommended for inclusion in Indian constitution. He said that being one of the oldest and significant languages of South-Asian sub-continent, Gojri has locus standi for its inclusion in the 8th Schedule, as there are adequate provisions and facilities in Indian Constitution for linguistic minorities. He said that Gojri has a strong literary tradition and has been recognized as tribal language of India by the National Academy of Letters viz. ‘Sahitya Academy’. “Noted saint scholar and Hindi Persian poet of 13th century Hazrat Amir Khusroo had formally mentioned Gojri language in the list of eighteen major Indian languages of his time. Several researchers and historians have already said that Gojri language is the mother of Rajasthani, Gujrati, Urdu and Haryanvi Languages,” He added According to current analysis, Gojri language is first language of 20 million people in south Asia including India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Gujjars further sought help of Kashmiri, Dogri and other linguistic groups, political parties, social organizations in this regard as justified cause of tribal population of the state. From J&K Kashmiri and Dogri, both the languages have already been included in the eighth schedule.
