Staff shortage impinges working of J&K info deptt | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, May 13: Information department opened with the aim to highlight the government’s achievements and acquaint people about various government sponsored schemes is facing serious shortage of staff in five districts of the state. The situation is so bad that newly created districts of Reasi, Doda and Kishtwar are without district offices. They are being run from already established Tehsil offices. Even in some districts, posts of information and assistant information officers are lying vacant. More importantly, there is no viable transfer policy for the employees working at the same place from the last more than 5 to 10 years. Sources said that five districts namely Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar are facing acute shortage of staff. Out of 65 sanctioned posts in the entire five districts, 39 are vacant and even in newly created Ramban district; an orderly has been running the department. In Udhampur district, out of total 21 sanctioned posts 12 are lying vacant .In newly created Reasi district, out of eight sanctioned posts, four are lying vacant. To cater to protocol and maintain routine VIP movement at Mata Vaishno Devi base camp Katra, out of 11 sanctioned posts, 9 are lying vacant. Similarly, in newly created Ramban district, situation is so bad that out of 3 posts already sanctioned before creation of new district, 2 are vacant and orderly is running routine affairs of department. Tale of department is same in Udhampur as out of total 19 sanctioned posts, 10 are laying vacant. Kishtwar is also facing shortage of staff as it is also performing its work from already established Tehsil office with 3 sanctioned staff, 1 is presently lying vacant. Five districts which include newly created three districts are facing acute shortage of staff and are also running short of resources. To speed-up working of department for highlighting government policies and plans, officials maintain that vacant posts should be filled without any further delay. They said that for the last two years, they have been working tirelessly to cater to routine VIP movement. He maintained that newly created districts are running short of staff alongside facing numerous infrastructural problems .
