Panchayat elections to facilitate devolution of decision making: Tara Chand

JAMMU, Nov 7: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said today that the state government is looking forward to hold Panchayat elections in the state to facilitate devolution of decision making powers at the grass root level in rural areas.
Tara Chand said this during his whirlwind tour to Khour along with senior officers and number of local leaders.
Calling for massive participation of the people, he said there was a need to field honest and dedicated candidates to ensure evolution of a vibrant Panchayat system. He asked the concerned officers to rectify the discrepancies, if any in the voter lists so that elections could be held in a free and fair manner.
On the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister directed concerned executing authorities to start work on Pargwal road without any delay. He also said that keeping in view good pace of education in the area there is immediate need of Degree College in the area. He said that it is expected that Khour will get Degree College very soon.
Asserting that the coalition government was making every effort to create a congenial atmosphere for ushering the state an era of peace and prosperity, Tara Chand said that the developmental activities would be further accelerated in the coming months.
Listing various projects being executed to raise the socio-economic condition of the people living in rural areas, he said that a lift irrigation scheme, involving a cost of Rs 4 crore is being constructed at Chapral from Manwar Tawi. He said with the completion of the project thousands of farmers of the area would be benefitted by getting better irrigation facilities. He said the government has also provided Rs 20 pump sets to the farmers in the areas facing shortage of irrigation water.
He also reviewed the pace of progress on the double lanning of Pargawal road being developed at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore and asked the additional DC to look into the complaints about use of substandard material at some places. He said Work on multi-crore Khour-Pargwal bridge benefiting lakh of people of 62 villages on both sides will be start immediately.
Later, the Tara Chand distributed 43 cheques amounting Rs 10 thousand each among the beneficiaries under National Family benefit scheme.
