Govt flayed over non-implementation of central schemes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 7: CRITICISING the government for its failure to take up the rural electrification provided under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna in Rajouri and Thanamandi blocks of Rajouri constituency, senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan said that the authorities had been partial and had followed a choose and pick policy towards implementing the centrally sponsored schemes. Earlier, Shahzad Khan conducted a tour of Thana Mandi, Lah, Dhara, Mangota, Alal, Azamtabad, Nadyala, Androot and Numblan where he interacted with the local people. He said Shahzad has appealed the Prime Minister to personally intervene into the matter as all the Centrally sponsored programmes are misappropriated and not properly implemented on grounds and as such a thorough enquiry be conducted through the CBI under his direct supervision. Shahzad Khan said that no concrete steps have been taken under the Sarve Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). Besides, Khan said that the annual funds have already been drawn and utilised by the authorities but there is no such sign of utilization. The funds for raising the buildings have also been released and payments and the period of completion has lapsed but the structure is yet to be completed. A detailed and transparent investigation is required to be conducted in this concern. Khan said that the children have to travel a long distance to reach their school but the teachers remain absent thereby causing distress and lack of interest among them. He demanded thorough probe in the absentism of the teaching staff which is damaging the future of the children. Shahzad Khan said that the Indira Awas Yojna has also not been implemented in letter and spirit but with a bias as the near and dear ones of the concerned authorities have been the beneficiaries against the needy people. He has requested the Government to intervene and provide the benefits under its direct supervision. Taking a stock of the unemployment in the area, Khan said that the people are not able to reap the benefits provided under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) as they have to pay a sum of around Rs 300-400 to avail the employment card which otherwise is beyond their reach. The State Government needs to take stern and transparent action against the guilty and bring them to book so that there is corruption free governance in the state. Khan said the RTI Act is also not functional as he himself had asked for a number of information under the Act but the authorities have given a silent and cold response. He said it is high time to stop the state from going into the verge of lawlessness and such corrupt public authorities should be brought to book. Later, Shahzad Khan warned the government that if things go in the same manner, time is not far when the disillusioned people of the border district Rajouri will also come on street in protest.
