Majority of Kashmiris to shift to Jammu for better coaching facilities for their wards during winter break
11/7/2010 11:12:21 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 7: With Kashmir witnessing a total shutdown for over five months since the darbar move to Summer Capital in May this year which put the normal life to a grinding halt besides disturbed the studies of the student community to a greet extent, the majority of Kashmiris are planning to shift to Jammu soon after the Winter breaks of their children is announced for better coaching facilities to them to recover the loss suffered their wards have suffered due to strike.
According to sources the parents concerned for the future of their children are now left with no alternative but to move to Winter Capital after the vacations of the students begin to arrange better coaching facilities for them so that they can re-cope the loss in studies during the strike and compete in the annual and other competitive examinations.
Sources said the student community in Kashmir has been the worst victim of the five month long turmoil this year as their studies have been totally affected due to continuous bandh calls. Though the Government over a month back took initiative to ensure that the educational institutions are allowed to perform the routine function and be kept over the purview of strike call, but this too has not yielded the desired results as expected because the daily and routine bandhs continued to affect their functioning and already the students had lost over three months of their academic year, sources added.
Sources said to coop up with the loss in studies the students need proper coaching and guidance during the winter break, which the parents apprehend could not be possible in the Valley due to the frequent bandh and strike calls by separatists. This is the reason that majority of Kashmiri people belonging to upper and upper middle class families have decided to shift their wards to Winter Capital for better coaching facilities, sources added.
Sources said that parents are only waiting the winter break to shift to Jammu along with their wards to heave a sigh of relief and get rid of daily violence and strikes.
Sources said many parents have approached their friends in Jammu or employees working in move offices with the plea to manage accommodation for them for the winter season in Jammu. Even many have approached the private coaching centers here seeking admission for their wards, sources added.
Riyaz Ahmed a Government employee from Valley who had visited to Jammu in connection with arranging a rented accommodation for his family from December to March to admit his two sons in a private coaching center here said that ``the education of the children in Valley has been hit hard due to this year's strike''. ``Our children lost five months of their academic year and it is difficult for them to compete in any competitive examination provided they do not get extra coaching facilities., So I along with my colleagues have decided to shift to Jammu during the Winter break to send our children in some better coaching centres'' he added.
Admitting that shifting form Valley to Jammu will prove too economical for them Riyaz said he and other Kashmiris concerned towards the future of their wards are left with no alternative except shifting to any other place from Valley.
There is no guarantee that the situation will change for better in Valley soon, said Mohammed Shaban a trade union activist while justifying the decision of the parents to send their wards to Jammu for coaching during the Winter break.
Lashing out at separatists and anti national elements who have put the Kashmir on fire, Shaban said the leaders of separatist organizations are not bothered for the wards of common Kashmiri as their own children are studying in prestigious education institutions outside the Valley.
The separatist leaders are befooling the people on the name of Azadi and other cheap slogans that have yielded no results for last over 21 years, Shaban said, adding to overcome their weaknesses and failures separatists are spreading canards day in and day out to kept the pot boiling. But how long they will befool the people now.
