Cong high command to review political, security scenario in J&K soon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 8: The National Conference leadership has started developing misgivings about the role of the Congress in the near future following reports that senior leaders from the Party's state unit were planning to meet the Congress high command in New Delhi to apprise it about the attitude of the National Conference leaders trying to weaken the coordination between the ruling coalition partners. Senior Congress leaders in Jammu said that they had sent feelers to the party high command on the growing level of dissatisfaction among the Congress workers and leaders about the style of functioning of the NC leadership. They said that the Congress high command "advised us to avoid precipitating matters ‘’. The Congress leaders, reports said, have been told to continue to support the NC-led Government and whatever grievances the state unit of the Congress had against the Chief Minister and other NC leaders would be reviewed by the party high command after the US President, Barack Obama completed his tour of India. Number of Congress leaders said that top NC leaders, especially those members of the council of ministers headed by Omar Abdullah, were"deliberately" either ignoring or sidelining the Congress functionaries, including the PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz. They blamed the Chief Minister for having failed in promoting coordination between the National Conference and the Congress with the result the top congress leaders, including the PCC Chief and ministers, were not being taken into confidence while taking important decisions by the NC leadership. Reports said that notwithstanding the fact that the Congress high command was averse to any idea of altering the present political arrangement in Jammu and Kashmir, it has decided to carry out a detailed review of the political and security scenario in the state after Obama left India. According to these reports, Omar would be summoned to Delhi after the Congress high command had a detailed discussion with senior party leaders from Jammu and Kashmir. This was being done to convey Omar suggestions on improving his performance which was needed to break the cycle of violence and shutdowns. These reports said that once again Omar as been told to each out to the people and galvanise his party cadre that could pose a new challenge to Geelani and his fellow travellers.Party sources said that the NC leadership had managed to stage anti-Geelani protest rally in Lal Chowk on Sunday but since the number of participants in the anti-strike rally was small, the stone pelters dominated the show by forcing the protesters to beat a hasty retreat. Indications are that from the middle of the current month a central team was to be constituted to monitor the execution of the centrally sponsored schemes in Jammu and Kashmir besides those falling in the state sector because the Congress unit in Jammu and Kashmir has complained to the centre that the Chief Minister was trying to delay implementation of various development projects meant for the Jammu region.
