| Lok adalat held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 8: A special Lok Adalat and a seminar on ‘National Legal Services Day’ was organized for mentally retarded persons in the District Court Complex, Ramban under the chairmanship of Bala Jyoti, District Legal Services Authority, (Principal District and Sessions Judge), Ramban. Deputy Commissioner, Ramban Shabir Ahmed, who is an active Member of District Legal Services Authority, was the guest of honour.
Other prominent persons those spoke on the occasion were Mubaseer Latiefi SP Ramban, Kusoom Lata Pandita Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ramban, Yehya Firdous Munsiff Ramban and A. R Mushtaq, Advocate, Bar President Ramban. All the speakers focused on the benefits of free Legal Aid Services to the deserving litigants and particularly mentally disabled persons. The Chairman Bala Jyoti while high lighting the benefits and concept of free Legal Aid Scheme stressed on the sensitation of judicial , police officers, Advocates towards mentally retarded person and other socio legal problems. In the seminar the issue of transgender community was also discussed and all those present on the occasion were apprised about the discriminatory attitude of the society towards this community and a focus was made for attitudinal changes towards the mentally retarded persons and persons belonging to transgender community. On the occasion issue of under trials was also discussed as there is neither jail or sub jail in District Ramban which hampers the early disposal of cases pertaining to undertrials. The proceedings were compared by Tasaduq Hussain Malik Advocate and vote of thanks was expressed by Suraj Singh Parihar Advocate.
