PYC Pooh-Poohs shortage of seeds, fertilizers
11/8/2010 10:28:21 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 8: Joining the opposition streak of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) on Monday lodged a strong protest against the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for shortage of seeds and fertilizers in Jammu.
The PYC also sought the intervention of the Chief Minister for immediate follow-up action in the matter of non-supply of seeds and fertilizers to the farmers of Jammu despite the onset of sowing season.
In an emergency convened meeting here at PYC headquarters, Jammu, senior vice-president PYC, R S Pathania took to task the authorities in the department of agriculture for failing to provide seeds and fertilizers despite the onset of sowing season.
“After a series of droughts, a fair crop season has been witnessed in Jammu but administrative apathy seems out and out to spoil the crops of farmers. The farmers of Jammu have been placed in a precarious situation as monsoon failures coupled by unprecedented price rise and rising unemployment in rural sectors have already broken the back of economies of the farmers,” the PYC leader lambasted.
He alleged that non-supply of seeds and fertilizers have further confounded the confusion. “The sowing season of wheat crop is slipping day in and day out and thousands of acres of tilled land is waiting virgin for the seeds and fertilizers to be supplied by the government. The log-like sleeping official functionaries seems hardly braced to have any crash solution to the problem,” he said.
The PYC leader alleged, “In order to save and stabilize the fractured economies of farmers, the government has to resort to some practical work instead of harping on kid-glove treatments and half-hearted approaches.”
He also threatened of a province-wise stir in case immediate remedial measures are not affected at the earliest.
Among others who spoke on the occasion and shared similar views included R S Chib, Amit Gandotra, Amit Gandotra, Manu Jamwal, Sonu Dogra, Mandip Singh, Ajay Jamwal, Varinder Singh, Ravi Kumar, Pankaj Chibber, Shivang Satya Gupta, Vikram Bhandari, Bharat Priye, Rajvir Manhas, Amit Manhas, Behzad Mallik, Jyoti Sharma, Shashi Bhushan, Maheshwar, Ajay Taloor, Asheesh Kotwal, Shafiq and other Youth Congress leaders.
