HM ultra surrenders in Banihal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 8: A 19-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant today surrendered before a joint column of 23 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police at Hingni nullah in Banihal. Police sources identified him as Mohammad Iqbal Naik (19), son of Gulam Akbar Naik of Khoura Khari, Banihal.He was a 10th class student at government higher secondary school, Khari, when he had joined HM ranks about two years back, the sources added. Sources said after he fled school, he was given training in the handling of arms and ammunition in the Khari forests.He was involved in several gunbattles with security forces. In the one encounter, that took place at Bhimdassa in Gool few months back, his accomplice was killed while he had managed to escape. As troops continued hunting for him after his escape, he today appeared across the Hingni nullah in Banihal and expressed the desire to surrender. Soon thereafter, he was taken into custody by the jawans, the sources added. Sources said he surrendered along with a pistol and its three rounds. He was a close associate of HM district commander Qari Zuber.His sustained interrogation was on, the sources added. |
