| Rs 20 cr J&K Bank scam: SVO registers case | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 8: The state vigilance organization (SVO) has registered a case in the Rs 20 cr scam in the Lethpora branch of J&K Bank against officials of revenue, bank and others.
An FIR under sections 409, 120-B, 467, 468 and 471 of RPC was earlier registered at Awantipora police station.
The home department had subsequently referred the case to SVO for its thorough investigation.
Official sources said the SVO had registered a fresh case under sections 5(1) (c), 5(1) (d) and 5(2) of prevention of corruption Act, 2006, besides the offences under sections 120-B, 409, 468 and 471 of RPC against the accused.
Sources said the land acquisition for four-laning of national highway-1A at Lethpora and its adjacent villages was required to be made under land acquisition Act and compensation was to be given to the concerned eligible beneficiaries (land owners) by Adil Rashid
Naqash, additional deputy commissioner, Pulwama, in his capacity as collector of land acquisition national highway.
During 2009 and 2010, a misappropriation of compensation amount of over Rs 20 cr was committed in the J&K Bank's Lethpora branch by operating accounts of Naqash.
Through these accounts, all the fraudulent withdrawals through dubious means were made, the sources added.
In this way, revenue officials of Pulwama, including Naqash, his office superintendent Parvez Ahmed Andrabi, and officials of the Lethpora J&K Bank, including manager Nazir Ahmed Mir, in conspiracy with non official accused Showkat Ahmed Dar, son of Gulam Rasool Dar of Zinipora, Chadoora, Farooq Jehan Zaib alias Rinku, son of Gulam Mohiudin Bhat of Awantipora, Pulwama, and others misappropriated the compensation amount of over Rs 20 cr, resulting into corresponding loss to the state exchequer.
Further investigation in the case was in progress, the sources added. |
