Secretariat opens to a bustling activity on first day | CM wants to make up 'lost time' in Jammu | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 8: Unperturbed by the 'restrictions' on account of bandh, the Civil Secretariat opened here after six months, heralding beginning of traditional ' Durbar' amid hustle and bustle and hectic activity of work all around. Commencing on a positive note, the Chief Minister said that government would focus on making good of the losses caused by the law and order situation in the Valley during last five months by re-doubling its efforts to fast track development process. As the offices opened here today, the Secretariat which is the main seat of governance opened amid traditional rituals of guard of honour for the "Durbaries, Chief Minister in particular", with rousing reception amid presence of senior administrative and police officers besides his council of ministers and the employees working in various departments. The Chief Minister also exchanged wishes and interacted briefly with the officers and employees on the occasion. Despite bandh in the city, the attendance at least in the civil Secretariat remained almost full on the first day with officers and employees at all levels showing keen interest to join their work. Like every year, the Chief Minister also made quick round of the entire complex to take stock of the preparations and augmented facilities for bettering the work atmosphere in some departments which have been put in place by the Estates Department this year.Secretariat also witnessed heavy rush of visitors on the first day of opening of Durbar. " We have already lost time for the current financial year….we have to re double our efforts in implementing planned schemes during these months here in Jammu", Chief Minister said adding that he has already advised his council of minister snad senior officers to reach out to people to solve their problems. The Chief Minister also inaugurated 40-room additional building block constructed on the existing Civil Secretariat complex, Jammu. The additional block has been completed by the Estates Department within six months at a cost of over Rs. One crore. The Chief Minister also inaugurated three ministerial halls for ARI Trainings, Education and Health Departments completed at a cost of about Rs. 1.50 crore. Director Estates, Khurshid Ahmad giving details of the newly constructed rooms and halls said that this would help to provide adequate accommodation to various offices in the Civil Secretariat. He said Estates Department has purchased 64 flats in Muthi at a cost of over Rs. 4 crore to provide residential accommodation to the government employees. Later, the Chief Minister held a meeting with the members of council of ministers and discussed road map for fast tracking projects and reaching out to every area in the process of development. Omar said that efforts should be made to make good of the loss of precious time due to law and order situation in the Valley during last five months. "We have to strive hard to move ahead with a determination to accomplish the development tasks, ensuring judicious spending and completion of works within the prescribed timeline. The Chief Minister advised the ministers to make regular visits to the fields and monitoring development process a permanent feature of their working schedule. "Public interaction should also form a part of such visits", he told the ministers. |
