Non-serious colleges earn JU bad name | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, November 09: The non serious approach of the affiliated colleges earned a bad name for the University of Jammu (JU), especially when it comes to sports on the campus. Least bothered about the guidelines issued by the JU’s Department of Sports and Physical Education, these colleges failed to report the venue even after confirming their entries for the annual inter-college women’s football tournament. What to talk of affiliated colleges, even the own PG Departments of the University could not raise the team to compete in the annual activity of the ISO-certified institution. “It is true that five teams, including that of PG Departments, have confirmed their entries for participation, but unfortunately, none of them reported the venue so far,” incharge of the competition, former JU football coach, Dr Brij Baloria told SAN. Making mockery of the system, the colleges which have confirmed participation, did not bother to even inform about their inability to take part in the tournament. The participating colleges include Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, GCW Parade, Government Degree College Rajouri, Government Degree College RS Pura and PG Departments of JU. “It seems that JU is ill-equipped or lack will to take action against these non-serious affiliated colleges, who despite having strength in thousands little bother about raising a 20-member team,” said a veteran footballer pleading anonymity. “Moreover, these affiliated colleges have got people appointed by the government exclusively for the purpose of raising teams for different inter-college activities. But, to the dismay of those in the administration, these `so called’ Physical Directors hardly think about justifying the hefty salaries they get,” he maintained.
