MIER celebrates world ecology day | | | Early Times report JAMMU, Nov 9: MIER College of education today celebrated world ecology day by organising slogan writing competition on the theme ‘Environment and its Conservation’. Fifty students of the college participated in the competition. The slogans prepared by the students were displayed in an exhibition in the college premises. A panel of three judges viz. Dr. Surinder Kour, Dr. Ira Bhan and Annie Koul was constituted for evaluation of best entries. Swayam Bharti bagged first prize; Masrat Ali and Monika were jointly declared second; Payal Sharma and Shaista shared third prize. On the occasion, Director MIER and Principal of the College addressed the students. During her address, she stressed upon the need for conserving natural world comprising of the flora and the fauna, which is vital for the existence of human life. Joint Director MIER and Vice Principal of the college Dr. Adit Gupta highlighted role of youth in conserving the environment. He stated that we must preserve our forests, fisheries and the diversity of living species, all of which are close to extinction under the pressure of human consumption and destruction. All the staff members of the college were present on the occasion. Later, the exhibition was declared open to all the students of the college as well as the Model Academy School. Principal of the school Puneet Basoor appreciated the efforts of the students and said that such type of activities would go a long way in bringing a comprehensive change among the students.
