On this day in 1999, a patrol party of 12 Bihar Regiment noticed a group of militants entering into this side in Gulmarg sector in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Led by 25-year-old Captain Gurjinder Singh Suri, the soldiers challenged the infiltrators who wanted to set foot on our motherland, a defence ministry spokesman said here today. He said on the 11th death anniversary, the officers and jawans salute the martyrs for their daring act of beating back the intruders.
The fortitude shown by Captain, sepoy Birendra Kumar, L NK Birendra Nath Tiwari and sepoy Manoj Kumar in making the supreme sacrifice will forever inspire posterity to keep aloft the dignity of our profession. The affiliation of younger brother Randhir's with the battalion speaks volumes of the immortal spirit and strength of the Suri family.
