Cong peeved over Omar's latest statement on accession
11/9/2010 10:42:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 9: Senior functionaries of the state unit of the Congress have started blaming Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, for attempting at "needling" its coalition partner in order to "hijack" the agenda of Kashmiri separatists.
While referring to Omar Abdullah's Monday's statement on the opening day of Darbar in Jammu these Congress functionaries said that it was highly unfortunate and equally provocative for the Chief Minister to assert that he stood by his statement made on the floor of the Assembly in which he had questioned the finality of the state's accession with India.
The Congress leaders said that on one hand the BJP and other parties had organised a Bandh in Jammu in protest against Omar's statement on accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India on the other the Chief Minister reiterated his stand on the accession issue. They said that Omar's statements continue to create embarrassment for the Congress in the state, especially in its stronghold in the Jammu region.
Asked whether they would convey their deep displeasure over Omar's stand to the Congress high command, a senior party leader said "it is for Delhi to take a serious cognizance of Omar's political pranks." He said "if this time also the centre in general and the Congress high command in particular avoided taming Omar it would cause major erosion in the Congress vote bank in Jammu region."
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma, seems to be dismayed over the way the National Conference leadership continues to be least interested in introducing major improvement in the Panchayati Raj system by implementing the 73rd amendment in the constitution. He said that the NC leadership had been in favour of autonomy or even the self-rule but opposed to bringing the state at par with the Panchayati Raj system that is prevalent in the entire country.
Another senior Congress leader said that Omar is possibly delaying reforms in the Panchayati Raj System on the pattern that is in force in rest of the Country as part of "his plan to give pinpricks to the Congress is just to keep the separatists in good humour.”
