Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 9: A deputation of Dogri Sanstha, Jammu met the Minister of Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik and put forth the demands and suggestions for development and promotion of Dogri language and Dogra culture.
The deputation demanded that teachers in Dogri language be appointed in all Colleges of Dogri speaking region of the state. Further, instead of adhoc or contractual appointments teachers be appointed on regular and permanent basis so that the students who have offered Dogri as subject are not put to difficulty. Deputation pointed out that though the colleges at Bani, Ramban, Palloura, Nowshera are situated in Dogri speaking areas, no Dogri teacher has been appointed in the colleges of these areas.
Deputation also urged upon the Minister to set up a Centre for Folklore and Linguistic Studies in the University of Jammu to undertake academic and scientific studies of the folklore and languages of the region as no substantial work has been done in this direction. It was pointed out by the members of the deputation that it was the duty of the State Govt. to introduce such languages at primary level of School Education which are included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.
Members of the deputation also brought to the notice of the Minister that there are 296 Higher Secondary Schools in Jammu Province but Dogri is being taught in only 32 of these Schools. It was demanded that the Dogri be taught in all Higher Secondary Schools of Dogra region and anomalies in this matter be removed.
It was also urged upon the Minister to devise a comprehensive policy to teach Dogri in Schools right from primary level onwards upto higher secondary level. Minister gave a patient hearing to the deputationists and assured that his ministry will soon initiate steps to meet the demands put forth by the deputationists and appreciated the suggestions by them for progress and promotion of the culture and languages of the region.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, Prof. Veena Gupta, General Secretary of Dogri Sanstha and Prof. Nilamber Dev Sharma comprised the deputation.
