Omar calls for harnessing J&K’s diverse agriculture potential

JAMMU, Nov 9: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reiterated his government’s determination to uplift farming community and bring about a healthy change in their economic condition.
Addressing a farmers gathering after inaugurating the office of the Kissan Advisory Board here, Chief Minister said that the self-reliance in agriculture production was directly related to the overall welfare of the farmers. He said that there was great scope for enhancing agricultural activities in the state besides giving boost to allied sectors of animal rearing, poultry farming, sheep breeding, floriculture and horticulture. “These are the sectors providing tremendous avenues of generating wide-ranging economic activities and opening new vistas of job opportunities for thousands of youth”, he said.
Chief Minister said “the State possesses a vast potential for these activities and a ready market is available for the agriculture products like food grains, mutton, wool, milk, chicken and eggs within the State”. He asked the Agriculture Department to make farmers aware of the schemes available for launching projects in these sectors. “The department should come forward to help and guide youth in this regard”, he said adding that government would provide every sort of help.
Addressing the function the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir presented a resume of the measures the State government has taken under the stewardship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for giving fillip to the agricultural activities in the State and helping economic welfare of the people associated with farming.
Meeting was also addressed by the Vice Chairman of the Kissan Advisory Board, Kunwar Rachpal Singh and Minister of State for Agriculture, Javaid Ahmad Dar while Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Medical Education, R. S. Chib, Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, Advisors to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Davender Singh Rana, Vice Chairman Pahari Board, M. A. Bukhari, legislators, Ajay Sadhotra, T. S. Wazir, Mr. Qureshi, Provincial President, NC, Rattan Lal Gupta, were present on the occasion besides others.
