Court dismisses SLP of JKNPP on delimitation case | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 9: Supreme Court today dismissed the Special Leave Petition filed by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) challenging the judgement of the division bench of the J&K High Court dated February 6, 2009. DB of Jammu and Kashmir High Court had dismissed the petition earlier. State was represented by M.I. Qadri learned Advocate General along with Gaurov Pachananda Senior Addl, Advocate General Supreme Court and Sunil Fernednes Advocate-on-Record and the Central Government was represented in the Supreme Court by Gopal Subramaniam Solicitor General of India. In view of the arguments advanced before the Supreme Court by the Advocate General of J&K State and assisted by Gourav Pachnanda and Sunil Fernandes and in view of the law that govern the subject matter of the lis viz to readjust the total number of seats in the Legislative Assembly of the State and the division of the State into territorial constituencies, the amendment to Article 170 of the Constitution of India, 84th Amendment Act, 2001 imposes similar freeze on the delimitation exercise with respect to the Legislative Assemblies of other States in the country as well, the SLP has been dismissed.
