Police to hold cricket coaching camp, matches for Martyrs’ kids | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 9: In a bid to inculcate sporting habits among children, Jammu Police is going to organise a week-long coaching camp and a cricket tournament under the banner ‘Police Youth Promotional Cricket Cup’ for the kids and children of police martyrs’. “Organising such an event for the kids and children of the police martyrs’ is an initiative to provide ample opportunity to them in exhibiting their talent,’’ Ashok Gupta, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone told reporters at a press meet here this evening. Gupta said that the week-long event will hold coaching camps to be undertaken by the expert cricketers including former Ranji Trophy cricketers followed by limited overs matches. “The event will be declared open by the Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda tomorrow at 1030 hrs at Jammu University Grounds and will conclude on November 17,’’ the IGP added. Gupta further said that in total 14 teams from various schools in the age group of 8-15 years would be taking part in the tournament adding, “the Jammu police will also distribute sports kits and uniforms among them.’’ He further added that the department is planning to make it an annual feature and the best players would also be given an opportunity to be trained under the guidance of the experienced and professional coaches so that they could compete at various levels.
