Participate massively in panchayat polls:Sadhotra | BJP leaders join National Conference at Marh | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, NOVEMBER 10: Member Legislative Council, Ajay Sadhotra has Appealed to the people of the State to strengthen the hands of coalition Government in coming Panchayat and Local Bodies elections. The Member Legislative Council said this while addressing a large gathering at Dina Dhak in Marh block, here this afternoon. Sadhotra said that coalition Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to decentralize powers and strengthen democracy at the grassroot level. He said that during 2008 elections, coalition partners have promised the people of the State for conducting Panchayat and Local Bodies elections, adding that Government is wants to put in place the panchayats as early as possible. The Member Legislative Council said that as per Panchayat Raj Act, 1989, maximum powers are to be decentralized to the elected bodies so that people have powers to decide the development activities of their villages and address their problems with own wisdom. Responding to the local demands, Sadhotra said that Government has sanctioned Rs. 14 crore under PMGSY for construction of two link roads included Mistriwala to Jhiri and Niki Tawi to Makwal. Regarding construction of community hall at Halka village in Marh block. He said that Government has earmarked Rs. 85 lakh for this purpose adding that after completing tender formalities, the construction would be started for the benefit of the villagers. He said that Government has sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh for construction of lanes and drains of Dina Chak village, the work would be started soon. Later, several Bhartiya Janta Party leaders of Marh block joined the National Conference in the presence of Sadhotra at Dina Chak village. They included Ashutosh Kesar, Kudeep Raj, Mohan Lal Sharma, Mohan Lal Bhagat, Raman Sharma, Sardari Lal, Lekh Raj Sharma, Rattan Lal Sharma,. Sham Lal,. Thakur Das Sharma, Sushant Sharma, Gopal Dass and. Ganesh Sharma. Senior National Conference leader Sushil Gupta also present on the occasion.
