| India, Belgium ink agreement on social security | | |
New Delhi, Nov 3: India and Belgium on Friday signed an agreement to provide social security to the Indians living and working in that country.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Belgian counterpart Guy Verhofstadt in the Capital.
The agreement, the first of its kind that India has signed with any country, will accrue social security benefits to the Indians living and working in Belgium.
Verhofstadt also met newly appointed Minister of External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath.
The Belgian Prime Minister will be meeting Congress party president Sonia Gandhi later in the day, which will be followed by a banquet hosted in honour of the visiting dignitary by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
He is also expected to interact with Indian business leaders in the next few days and sign a couple of business agreements as well.
Verhofstadt is scheduled to visit Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai during his visit.
Verhofstadt arrived in the city on Thursday on a six-day visit to the country. He is being accompanied by a high-level delegation which includes Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders and Foreign Minister Karl De Gucht and several business CEO's.
The Belgian delegation's visit is aimed at boosting bilateral ties, with focus on cooperation in trade and investments as well as holding talks on issues such as terrorism and the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. |
