| AC determined to get govt assurances fulfilled | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, November 10- A meeting of Assurance Committee (AC) was held here under the chairmanship of MLA M. Y. Tarigami today to work out strategy for holding Government accountable with regard to the assurances held out by the Ministers on the floor of the House.
Among others, the meeting was attended by the MLAs Irfan Shah and Charanjeet Singh besides officers of Assembly Secretariat.
Addressing the meeting, Tarigami linked good governance with transparency and accountability. He called for strict implementation of the assurances given by Government while responding to the demands put up by legislators in previous Assembly sessions.
He said legislators have prime role in holding executive accountable and ensuring efficient governance in a democratic system. “We have to ensure that public problems are sorted out by the Government”, he said.
Urging the Government to implement its assurances pro-actively, Tarigami said that fulfilling promises vis-a-vis public problems and difficulties was in the interest of the Government. He said tardy implementation of assurances dents credibility of Government.
The committee decided to review the progress on the implementation of assurances of PHE, Irrigation and Flood control departments in its next meeting slated on November, 24.
