`Spl measures on to strengthen health sector in J&K’ | Rs 44 cr earmarked for Ayurvedic & Unani colleges in Jammu and Srinagar | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 10: Underscoring the importance of the health sector, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that special measures have also been taken by his ministry to strengthen the health infrastructure in J&K State. The Union Minister, who arrived in Jammu today was speaking at a mammoth public meeting on the occasion of Shahidi Divas at Kathua.
Later, he also announced Rs 44 crore for two colleges with immediate effect for the State. Accordingly, one Ayurvedic College would be established at Jammu and one Unani College in Kashmir Valley. He also announced establishment of sub zonal office of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization in the State, which will facilitate immediate registration and licensing for concerned units in the State and save their time in getting the registration and licenses in a prolonged manner earlier. He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Member Parliament, Lal Singh, Minister of State for Cooperative, Dr. Manohar Lal, Minister of State for Power, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Ex-Minister, Gulchain Singh Charak, Legislators, Subash Gupta, Naresh Gupta, G.M. Saroori, Sharief Niaz, Jehangir Mir and Ch. Gharu Ram. The mammoth gathering had assembled to receive him at Kathua on the eve of Martyrs Day, which is being celebrated in memory of those martyrs, who have laid down their lives during Kargil war while protecting mother land. Speaking on the occasion, Azad said that present coalition Government has full support of the Congress. He said that during his two and a half year tenure as a Chief Minister of the State various mega and ambitious projects were launched, majority of which were completed during his tenure and hoped that other projects which are still in execution stage shall be completed very soon so that people of the State are benefited in a big way. On the occasion, while welcoming the Union Minister, Lal Singh welcomed the families of Martyrs and the Chief Guest. He said that ``we are all safe in our homes because of the security forces which are guarding the boundaries’’. He said that the sacrifices made by the soldiers can never be forgotten. He said that some vested interest and separatists created turmoil in the Kashmir valley which engulfed more than hundred innocent lives. Later, Azad gave away woolen blankets to the families of martyrs. On this occasion, heart touching blankets patriotic songs were presented by the renowned playback singer Mohammad Aziz. Azad further said that poor sections of the society are much concerned about development as all developmental activities not only provide them employment opportunities but also create all welfare facilities and assets for them. He said that those brave soldiers who have laid down their lives for protection of their country actually belong to same section of the society, who believe in protecting their country and have strong conviction of patriotism.
