Red alert sounded along Indo-Bangla border
11/3/2006 6:47:46 PM

Aizawl, Nov 3 The BSF has beefed up security arrangements along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Mizoram, Cachar and Tripura area following recent political developments in Bangladesh.

BSF commandant and official spokesperson Sheik Altaf Hussain told UNI here today that the Union Home Ministry has instructed to enhance security arrangements along the border areas.

''An alert has been sounded following sudden political turmoil in Bangladesh fearing the rise in cross-border crime. We have stepped up vigil along the Indo-Bangla border to foil any infiltration bid,'' Mr Hussain said.

He further said the intelligence network had been strengthened, as there was every possibility of movement of insurgent groups from Bangladesh.

Extra Border Out Post (BOP) had been established and all vehicles coming along these areas would be throughly checked, he said.
