Writers conference organised

JAMMU, Nov 11: In connection with the World Urdu Day, a one day writers conference was organized by department of Urdu, University of Jammu in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu language (NCPUL) here today.
About 100 Urdu writers from various parts of the state participated in the said conference.
The conference was inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik, who lauded the role of urdu department for organizing such a big conference. He threw light on the importance of Urdu language and described it the symbol of composite culture. Abdul Gani malik said that Urdu writers had always spread the message of love and brotherhood through their writings. Though they are not being felicitated by state government but still their writing attracts politicians who oftenly quote the urdu verses during their speeches, said Malik, adding that Government was seriously considering proposal for the promotion of language, including setting of Urdu Academy in the state. ”
Prof. R..D Sharma, who presided over the function, described urdu a language which had united India from Kashmir to Kenya Kumari and the language which had played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India . Tracing the History of Urdu language in the state he said that urdu flourished in Jammu and Kashmir during the period of Dogra Maharajas. He informed that university of Jammu is soon starting three month certificate course in Urdu Journalism which would provided more job opportunities to urdu knowing students Prof. R.D. Sharma has offered his full support for organizing such meaning full events to the department of urdu.
