Birth anniversary of Abdul Kalam Azad celebrated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 11: To celebrate the birth anniversary of the first union education minister Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the Department of School Education organized various functions here in Jammu. The day in Jammu city started with a rally comprising of hundreds of students drawn from different schools. The rally which started from GHS Gandhi Nagar was flagged off by the Commissioner Secretary Education Department Naseema and Director School Education Jammu Zahida Khan. The rally passed through the streets and bazars of Gandhi Nagar. At HSS Gandhi Nagar an impressive function was held on the eve of birth anniversary of Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad . The chief guest of the function was Minister for Revenue & Rehablitation.Raman Bhalla. The guest of honour was Commissioner Secretary Education Department. The programme was presided over by Director School Education Jammu Zahida Khan. The highlights of the programme were a quiz on the life of Moulana Azad and skits on the importance of literacy. Speaking on the occasion, Raman Bhalla appreciated the efforts of the students. Naseema in her address said that the Govt has started various schemes to eradicate illiteracy and that schools were being set up at the door-step of the children. Zahida Khan said that education was a key success. The quiz contest was won by HSS Bahufort. Gujjar Mahasabha celebrated birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad , a great freedom fighter and an educationalist today at Channi-Himmat and Gujjar Colony. Addressing the participants, Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, president of the Mahasabha, described Azad as a great visionary , a known freedom fighter and an educationalist. Poswal, later, appealed to the central and state governments to provide free education at the Post-Graduate level to the Gujjar and Bakerwal students community and and also mobile schools to the nomads and provision should be made for free education and scholarships to the children of nomads . . Poswal also raised the demand of introducing Gojri Department inJammu & Kashmir Universities of the State and for a hostel to accommodate tribal students of Colleges and Universities.President of the Mahasabha also appealed to Vice-Chairman , Social Welfare Minister and Director Tribal Affairs , to redress the problems of the Gujjars . Minister for Higher Education Mr. Abdul Gani Malik has stressed the need of respecting ideals of great leaders and educationists for steering the younger generation on the path of progress, prosperity and harmonious living. The Minister was speaking at an impressive function organized in the Government Women College Gandhi Nagar to mark the “National Education Day” coinciding with the birthday of first Education Minister of free India, Mr. Abdul Kalam Azad. Throwing light on contribution of the first Education Minister of India, the Minister said that Moulana Abul Kalam Azad worked hard to spread education in every nook and corner of the country especially in rural areas to uplift the down trodden. Besides, numerous reformative measures were introduced in education sector during his tenure, adding new dimension of vital importance to it. The students of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kathua today took out a peace march to spread the awareness messages about the importance of the education to celebrate the “Education Day” and later held a debate programme in the premises of the school. The students on the occasion delivered their opinions on the essence and role of education
