Return of migrants an acid test for Govt, majority community in Kashmir | | | ET REPORT JAMMU, Nov 12: Though the Government has mooted the return and rehabilitation formula for displaced Pandits to their homes and hearths in Valley but to give this formula a practical shape will be an acid test for both the Government and the majority community across the Jawahar Tunnel. The State Government, which claims to have taken various steps for rehabilitation and return of Kashmiri migrants in Valley under PM's Rs 1614 crore package is itself in a fix as how to implement the same in view of the prevailing lawlessness in Kashmir which is witnessing a complete shutdown for last five months now. Right from the announcement of the PM's package the displaced Pandits showed a lukewarm response to it as the community has many apprehensions regarding its return to Valley. Though over 14,000 displaced unemployed youth filled up their forms for the 3000 posts advertised by the State Government to seek a job in Kashmir Valley but they too have many apprehensions about their safety and security after they join their services in Kashmir, said Rakesh Kumar an unemployed KP youth serving in a private company at Noida. Rakesh said who does not like to return to his native place Kashmir and serve there but the conditions are not conducive for the same totally. The Government has to first look into the security concerns of the minority Hindus before formulating any return package, he added. “The separatists and militants continue to call shorts and threaten the nationalist elements in Valley and till the majority community will not publicly denounce the same how can we trust that the future of the Pandits will be safe in Kashmir,” he added. The Hurriyat has not changed its attitude towards the nationalist forces, said Raman Koul another KP youth doing his MBA in Pune. The Hurriyat and other separatists are fighting for the Azadi and merger of J&K with Pakistan. The entire Kashmir is in fresh turmoil for last over five months now and under these circumstances the minorities are not secure in Valley after their return, he added. Will Hurriyat leadership come forward and denounce the violence openly and will its leaders who are playing in the hands of Jehadi forces across s the border work for restoration of composite culture in Kashmir, he asked? It will be foolish to return on the mere assurances of the Government as the ground situation is deteriorating day by day in Kashmir, said Deepak Kumar, an engineer working with a private concern in Gurgoan, Haryana. The minorities putting up in Valley at present are not feeling safe there. Recently there were some reports regarding the attacks on Sikh minorities in Hatmulla, Mattan, Baramulla and Tral. The Government could not ascertain that who were the people who had planned to attack them he said, adding this shows that there is total uncertainty in Kashmir, so talking of return on the Government's assurance will be suicidal. |
