Moderate separatists ‘wants’ triangular talks on Kashmir
11/13/2010 10:50:08 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 13: Moderates in the separatist camp in the Kashmir valley seem to be disillusioned with the Congress led UPA Government over what they call the centre's eagerness to woo the hardliners.
A number of leaders belonging to the camp of moderates believe that the confusion in the Kashmir valley is the result of fluctuating approach of the central Government towards the issue concerning the resumption of the dialogue with "us." They expressed dismay over the latest trend in which the Government of India was trying to woo the hardliners especially Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

One senior leader of the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) said that between 2003 and 2006 "we were in the forefront of those trying to facilitate a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue." He said had not the centre choked the channels of dialogue with "us we would have, by now succeeded in evolving a solution to the Kashmir imbroglio."
Blaming the centre for lacking a clear cut policy on Kashmir the APHC leader said that it was strange that those in the camp of hardliners who were bent upon undoing the state's accession with India by campaigning in favour of Kashmir's merger with Pakistan, were being owned by the Government of India. Asked to explain it he said that the members of the All Party delegation, who visited Kashmir over a month ago, had made it a point to have a session with Syed Ali Shah Geelani which indicated that the Government of India was trying to place its eggs in the basket of the hardliners.
The moderates believe that reopening of channels of dialogue with all sections of the separatists had become as much imperative for finding a solution to the Kashmir issue as it was to restart composite dialogue with Islamabad. The APHC leader is of the firm opinion that a suitable and durable solution to the Kashmir issue could be found only through triangular talks. He hoped that once the talks between New Delhi and Islamabad showed progress Kashmiri separatists should be later involved in the parleys.
