| Sports finale at BSF hqrs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 15: An inter-frontier athletic meet would be held at the BSF headquarters at Paloura here from November 16 to 19.
Teams from the BSF frontiers of Jammu, Kashmir, Assam, Tripura, Rajasthan, M & C, Gujarat, South Bengal and North Bengal were scheduled to participate in the event, according to a BSF spokesman.
In the grande finale, top sportsmen, including Gurmeet Singh, deputy commandant, olympian and gold medalist in 1985 SAF games, and Gunjan Singh, assistant commandant, Asian track and field Games-2002, were participating as team managers and coaches, he added.
A total 500 players would be participating in 23 events for their respective frontiers. Track events were scheduled to be held during opening ceremony followed by a colourful cultural programme to be presented by the students of BSF School, Paloura.
The spokesman said sports activities were part and parcel of regular training activities in BSF and had a direct bearing on the professional efficiency of the force. These events helped in building the physical fitness, toughness and aggressive spirit in the force
personnel, he added.The spokesman said BSF had so far produced 17 Arjuna awardees, 123 National and 27 international players in different games. On the opening day of the games, revenue minister Raman Bhalla was scheduled to be the chief guest.
