11/15/2010 10:03:03 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, November 15: Taking a dig at the National Conference led coalition government, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayed today said the government survived through atrocities. In his Eid message, Mufti said the government seeks to convey evidence of its existence through paid advertisements of the ivory tower exercises of public contact.”
“While Eid marks joy and festivity all over the world Kashmir unfortunately celebrates the big occasion once again against the backdrop of blood and despondency. It has become an occasion that in spite of the recommended celebration reminds us of the great loss countless families suffered over the years and hundreds so recently”, he said.
Sayed said the turmoil thatengulfed the state this year was not yet over. “It continues to rage among the parents, families and the kith and kin of those who fell to the atrocities of trigger happy government forces. It has in fact seized an entire generation that is now on the run for their lives”, he said.
Accusing the government of total indifference to the woes of the sufferers, Mufti said the families rendered destitute as a result of death and injury are no body’s business. “The government was determined to “increase the scale of its draconian methods and atrocities”, he said.
Mufti also accused the government of terrorizing the youth. “Thousands of youth have been picked up even without acknowledging their arrest. More have been brought on the police hit list with the sole aim of creating an atmosphere of terror and silence of the grave yard”, he said.
The former Chief Minister said the government had defamed the Kashmiris as stone pelters. “The government is seeking sadistic pleasure through physical and psychological torture. Horror stories of places like Pattan, Palhalan and in fact entire rural Kashmir where the behaviour of police and security forces indicates a total reversal of normalization process that the state had witnessed before the installation of present government”, he said.
Giving a brief account of the atrocities inflicted on common people, Mufti said “Nocturnal raids are back and so are the civilian gunmen that have become an icon of national conference in power. Police has been making strange and obviously frightening inquiries from families in the rural areas like: why do you need a kitchen of this size or more than one toilet in the house if you are a small family. Civil liberties are curbed to an extent that Kashmir seems off the map of democracy.”
Mufti assured the people of PDP’s support and cooperation. PDP president, Mahbooba Mufti also extended Eid greetings to the people.
