University flouting all norms to appease private colleges | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 15: “Rules are meant to be broken”, that is absolutely correct as far as the working of the Jammu University is concerned. College Development Council (CDC) of the university continue with the admissions in the private B. Ed colleges affiliated with the University of Jammu. CDC continued to issue notifications after notifications for the admissions. Interestingly, University of Jammu had fully cooperated with the private B Ed colleges in filling up of their 20, 000 of seats by going out of the way. It had also allowed three phases of admission cum counseling just to appease the B Ed college owners. And the admissions are still going on. Educationists are of the view that these private colleges in connivance with Jammu University (JU) are just acting as a money minting machines. Even various B. Ed colleges are lacking required staff and even facilities. There are 75 private B. Ed affiliated with the University of Jammu mostly owned by politicians and other high profile people of the state. Majority of these colleges are concentrated in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts. Director, Colleges Development Council (CDC) Prof Rajiv Gupta said that this phase was the last phase and today was the last day of third phase of B Ed admission. Prof Gupta said that till today more than 19,000 students have been enrolled in the different colleges and about 1,000 seats are left behind. He also said that the class has been started since long and the students enrolled late would be provided with the extra classes to cope up the deficiency. Interestingly, official sources said that last date cannot be decided ministers having colleges ask for extending admission dates. As far as the pressure of politicians is there, the university could not formulate any academic calendar or strict rules.
