Herd of sheep and goat have been brought from the different areas of Jammu region in animal market for sale. Butlers have bought the stock at large for the occasion many months ahead of the festival to cope up with the demand on occasion. Amjad Ali , a butler apprised that many of the shepherds, nomads as well as local livestock rearing people start gearing up for the occasion many months before the occasion. They reared huge stock for the Eid-ul- Adha as they can earn best in this season of demand. “As we are regularly in this profession, we have knowledge as well as contacts with these people and we buy stock at large from these people”, said the butler. Herd of sheep and goat have been observed being brought by the dealers for sale in most of the Muslim residential areas like Kharika Talab, Bhathindi, Sidra and others. Mehraj Aslam who earns through out the year by rearing sacrificial animals and by selling them for mutton to butlers admitted that the rates of sacrificial animals generally goes up on this Eid adding that it also depend upon the weight and health of animal. Apprising about the significance of Eid ul Adha, Abdul Razak a clergy man said that the festival of Eid- ul- Adha is celebrated in the remembrance of Prophet Abraham’s readiness to forfeit Ishmael, his son for God. When Abrahim had this dream he asked his son for his sacrifice, the obedient son permitted his father to sacrifice him for God. Abraham along with his son started moving towards Mina for the sacrifice. But when prophet was sacrificing his son God asked him to sacrifice goat instead of his son. Though State government has fixed the rates for sacrificial animals but the sacrificial animals shown sale at arbitrary rates reaching upto to six thousand per animal and even higher than this on the Kurbani Eid.
