Army organizes cycle expedition across Pir Panjal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 16: A bicycle expedition by 6 Kumaon (Jangi) was flagged off by Lt Gen NC Marwah, General Officer Commanding 15 Corps from Badami Bagh, Srinagar here today. The cycle expedition will charter the historic Mughal route across the mighty Pir Panjal ranges, travelling from Srinagar to Poonch. The seven day cycle rally is aimed at creating awareness about the Army amongst civil populace and motivating youth to join the armed forces besides promoting national integration and spirit of adventure. In the back drop of escalating violence and unrest in the valley, the cycle expedition will spread the message of peace and will play an important role in exhibiting the adventurous spirit of the Army. It will also pave the way to provide the requisite healing touch by conducting medical camps en-route and by educating the local youth about various avenues and job opportunities in the Army. The team will interact with the local population and distribute leaflets, containing information about requisite qualifications for joining the Army and also highlighting the significance of Poonch Link up Day. The 15-member team will be traversing a distance of 196 kms through Pulwama-Shopian-Hirpur-Dubjan and Pir Gali situated at an attitude of 3500 m and roll down towards Bafliaz and finally reach Poonch on November 22 to conclude with Poonch Link up Day where it will be flagged in by GOC, 16 Corps.
