Loyalists shower accolades on Azad, small naggings show unity 'elusive' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 16: Close on the heels of the visit of Union Health Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to Jammu, his loyalists made a 'sudden' appearance today showering accolades and praises in his favour. A formal occasion for the purpose shared by many senior leaders, however turned somewhat sour later when some , apparently in a bid of one upmanship show, indulged in naggings , in informal chat, only to show there are layers of factions even within this faction of Pradesh Congress committee. Though in his absence from the state for over two years now, loyalists from Kashmir as well as Jammu have been frequently meeting on public forums to highlight what they term as landmark achievements, development works and some historic decisions during Azad's tenure as Chief Minister of J&K. For some time in recent past, this kind of 'resfershing exercise' by his staunch loyalists has been missing on ground even as the factionalism trumpets continued unabatedly in the Congress corridors. Soon after the change of guard in Maharashtra they have been seen grouping once again and becoming active in showering praises for their leader, this time it being woven around for his support and help in making Health infrastructure stronger in the state. "We would like to compliment UnionHealth Minister for his serious efforts in strengtheinh health sector in J&K…..his contribution in his capacity as Union Health Minister to enrich our health infrastructure has won the hearts of entire population of the state…..", the Congress leaders said while addressing the media. Prominent among those who shared the dais were Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council Arvinder Singh Micky, MLC BR Kundal and former minister Gharu Ram. Observers here see Azad loyalists becoming once again active in the backdrop of change of guard in Maharshtra where PR Chavan has become Chief Minister, a man who until assuming new charge was looking after the matters in J&K as incharge of J&K party unit. This change, they add has impacted working and equations within the Pradesh Congress committee here in Jammu and Kashmir. In Chavan's absence from the scene loyalists of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have once again become active within the state PCC and have once again started asserting themselves and putting up a joint show of unity. When Chavhan was incharge of J&K affairs and wielded more power than anyone else the state congress leaders, divided in two camps, often sided with the leader closer to 10 Janpath. In the same period Azad loyalists were maintaining a low profile and never gathered courage to counter the senior party leaders who enjoyed proximity of JKPCC chief Prof Saif Ud Din Soz camp. Interestingly, display of unity was visible here in the state capital at PWD guest house where a group of Azad loyalists were present to welcome the announcements made by union Health Minister about setting up of Ayurveda and Unani college in the state. While doing so the Congress leader though maintained that the party is united and there is no groupism but indirect references and gestures made during the special briefing made it obvious for media persons to conclude and understand the motive behind organising the press meet. Soon after the briefing, some leaders though belonging to the same camp indulged in naggings which started from a trivial matter and soon turned into exchange of hot words. Even media presence did not desist them from doing so. The bickering continued only to show 'unity' was still elusive within this faction as well. |
