Corruption leading to erosion of the moral values in indian social milieu | | KHUSHWANT S RANIAL | 11/17/2010 9:08:25 PM |
| Corruption has become a part of the daily life. There is hardly any day when we do not come across the cases of flourishing corrupt practices getting exposed in one form or another. It definitely lead us to hung our head in shame that we are the part of such a social set up where we have to survive among the monsters without taking a dig against their atrocities committed upon our helplessness. Rather our smelling power has diminished to distinguish the corrupt ones because we too have almost slowly but steadily started living with in such milieu. The heightened things have grown so worse that they look to be out of our own control to repair the damages so far so as to build the better image .Gone are those days when corrupt were rated to be despicable and pariah but in the prevailing circumstances things have turned to be the vice versa. Now the honest strength has squeezed to miniature leading them to the walls to observe the things meekly and helplessly as a mere onlookers. Those who do not conform to their lines have to the face the ire of those who are involved in mudslinging system. In fact ,while one breathe to survive , it looks as if corrupt practices have become a fair way of life and there is no other way to escape of this malady to live with dignity and honour. At least after the surfacing of the major scams involving Commonwealth Games ,2 G Spectrum ,Adarsh Housing Society, especially in a single year of2010 itself solidifies one's opinion about the level of corruption which has set in our political corridor set up. Truly, it has dented the image of the central Govt. in power as well as of the Mr. Clean Dr. Manmohan Singh as the head of the coalition body governing the nation although he is not directly found indulged in such type malpractices but it definitely casts doubt on the integrity of his efficiency and leadership qualities to hold the reign in future as well .To add to the woe is the starking revealations made by the Tata Group Chairman Rattan Tata about demand of around 15 crore rupees from him by civil aviation ministry officials and minister for favouring him to sign a deal with the Singapore Airlines for starting a project cleared is equally shocking and highlights the plight of a commoner citizen who have to grease the balm for getting his/her work done in every sphere of the life. One is absolutely disheartened by the events but the stark truth is that certain unavoidable compulsions compromised by the financial interests both at the centre and state political platforms have led to the emergence of chaos and until a formidable solution is found ,there seems no respite or total check to its multiplication. The most disheartening thing to state that earlier we used to cast doubt on the efficacy of leaders on the account of their poor qualification and selfish motives but with the surfacing of the Adarsh Housing Scandal in which scores of bureaucrats ,army generals ,senior technocrats and politicians are involved calls for an urgent exposure nexus established between the rulers and contractors ,brokers and suppliers ,officials and the middlemen etc. How shameful for at least those generals who betrayed the sacrifices of their fellow martyrs of the Kargil in whose name this housing colony was to be set up but the blind interests of these corrupt corridor holders swayed the air in the wrong direction. Under the such compelling circumstances ,one is forced to seek the opinion in regard to the impact and purpose of providing the rigorous training to the army officers at the time of their probationary period and ethical value based knowledge to the senior bureaucrats at the initial period of joining the elite club of the civil services .These leaders ,bureaucrats and army officers ,may be ,their strength too small to damage the whole show, be not enough but what is urgently required is to be given an exemplary punishment to such termite ridden souls for reminding others to be vigilant before stepping into their shoes hoping it as a part of the legacy that they have inherited and let it pass on uninterrupted .Corruption is not something which is confined to only to the exchange of money from one hand to the other to meet the materialistic needs in our daily needs but its domain extends in varied forms and manifestations. In our day today life ,we generally come across huge cases of adulteration , in qualitative production, red- tapism ,un necessary and inordinate delays in filing processes , impersonation particularly in the examination set up where one candidate appears in the name of the other either by forging the documents or in connivance of the invigilators staff etc are all the aspects of corrupt culture. Such type of the corrupt feature have led to the erosion of the moral values and every one dances to tune of the same piper who corners them to the profit hoarding. T he rust has effected the entire set up of the administration with the result that the common tax payers has to feel the brunt of the fire for no fault of his fate. Today ,we continue to figure at the acme in the corruption index but on the human index development ,ours graphs is not appreciative enough for healthy projection. No doubt, recently the most powerful ruler of the world namely Barack Obama admired our progress and even admitted us to be on the map of the most developed nations of the world as per his perception but one feels sorry to say that either he has not been aware of the ground realities existing in India or he too feels that without resorting to such ugly means ,government in democracies cannot be made to run. Whatever may be the position be ,the time has come to wage a war against it on the war footing like Hong kong did in the year 1974 to get rid of the corruption by establishing a separate set up to counter this growing menace that saps the vital economic set up. Unless drastic steps are not initiated ,the system will keep on pervading and multiplying beyond repairs . Already corruption business as per the experts, worth Rs. 81ooo crore is flourishing in setting the officials seals and deals. If we manage to check it ,there is no second thought or the reason that we would not be able explore newer areas of growth and development for the prevalence of a harmonious egalitarian society. But the million dollar question is that ,who will bell the cat to make the Lok Pal Bill a successful key in removing such an evil from the very face of the blurred image of India. Let we become an exception at our own level and bow before the corrupt mindset machinery for the personal benefits and adopt legal ways to carry out business. Hopefully ,the single individualistic efforts would definitely pave way to the success to feel pride in for our personal contribution in the near future. |
